Eel Skin Manufacturing Process

After the conger eels are caught from the deep sea depths, they are brought to the

eel skin factory where the eel skin is removed from the fish and dried.  The best eel

skin is hand-selected, defatted, spread then compressed by a compressor machine

for 24 hours so that it is flattened thin.  The skin is ironed, dyed to desired color and

coated with a brightener and waterproofing agent.  It is then cut to shape according

to the design of the particular end product intended, sewn to subsidiary materials

and assembled with separate linings and layers.  All the aforementioned

steps are done by hand, and with special care and detail by the specialists

responsible for each step.  That is why this process of eel skin manufacturing is

considered a unique art form rather than a mass-produced commodity.   We are

very proud to be able to offer you these specially-made products.
